9 Weeks

I can't believe I am 9 weeks already. Time sure is flying by. Only 3 more weeks until I am out of the first trimester and maybe, just maybe, I can start to relax and believe that this is all really happening. I have been such a slacker lately, I have not given an update in weeks. Truth be told there hasn't been anything to report. I haven't felt any different than when I wasn't pregnant. I think that may all beginning to change.

Insomnia: I haven't read this in any books and surely none of my pregnant friends have informed me about this. I am exhausted and can't wait to go to bed at night but then I lay there and cannot fall asleep for the life of me. When I finally do fall asleep I am up an hour later to go to the bathroom. It is amazing how much pee someone can make while sleeping. Then I lay there and can't fall asleep, again. I wake up every morning so exhausted, please tell me it gets better before the baby comes. I know I will be sleep deprived not just from the baby crying but from me not being able to stop staring at the baby.

Morning Sickness: I think it has finally reared it's ugly head. I am not sure though. For the past two mornings I wake up and brush my teeth but before I am done brushing I start dry heaving. Nothing comes up, I sweat, I tear up and my nose runs as if I have been throwing up. Then it's done and that is that. No nausea or anything for the rest of the day. I can brush at night without any problems, just the mornings. What is that?

Food, please: I am hungry. All. The. Time. I eat all the time but still hungry.

Don't get me wrong I welcome every single one of these because it means I am pregnant. Just giving you the facts about what is going on with me. I am grateful I am not throwing up all day and night.

We are meeting with an OB this afternoon, according to their website the first visit is more of an orientation and the second visit is the physical exam. I am not really expecting to see the baby or have anything done today. Bummer. There office consists of all women, Doctors and Midwives, I am excited to meet with the midwives because I want to hear what they have to say about natural birth. I really want to plan on having a natural birth and was worried that the OB's office we picked would not be open to that or supportive. Should be an exciting day today.

I don't think I ever really had insomnia with pregnancy...I was just exhausted all the time! Fell asleep on the couch every evening. And once the baby comes, trust me...you will sleep whenever you can. New baby exhaustion is amazing...I would crawl into bed and slip into unconsciousness with an amazing alacrity. Sleep was delicious.

Definitely peed all the time, especially in the beginning and end. I think I was up to 4-5 times a night at the end! 2nd tri is a bit better in that department.

My morning sickness was different than what you think of with morning sickness. Never puked, but I felt nauseous and miserable for a span of a few weeks, and it was most extreme in the afternoon. I actually lost weight in my first trimester because I could hardly eat anything...especially chicken and turkey...yuck! Lost a bit in the third tri too because there was just no room for food anymore. I never had any cravings, but I certainly indulged on my favorites...Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, dark chocolate, and ice cream. :)

Glad to hear you're doing well, friend!

Hi! Been following you for a while now and first of all congratulations! I am commenting because you mentioned natural childbirth. Check out my blog, my husband and I used the Bradley Method and I had a natural birth in the hospital. No intervention, intermitant monitoring, hep lock only, no IV, certainly no pain meds or epidural. My little girl is 5 1/2 months old and it was the most amazing experience ever. Anyway read my blog for lots of posts on the bradley method and also my birth story. See if there are classes near you via their website too! Congrats again and good luck!

You sound like me! Ever since 8 weeks I get up and have to dry heave in the toilet and nothing ever comes up (thank god) and then I am good to go for the rest of the day. Just don't make the mistake of eating before you dry heave, I ate once and then threw it all up, I didn't mke that mistake again! I am now 10w3d's and I still do it! I am also starving ALL the time, I can eat dinner and then 10 mins later I am ready for a snack. Come on 2nd trimester!!

I had insomnia too. I could always fall asleep but then I would get up to pee and it would be over and I would lay there awake for what seemed like forever. My OB told me that in the first trimester your body is doing the equivalent to hiking a mountain while you are asleep so it's difficult for the brain to turn off. It gets better before the baby comes but right before the baby...it goes back to not being able to sleep. sorry to dash your hopes ;-) Maybe it won't be for you.

I was always nauseous in the afternoon but I did gag every morning brushing my teeth. I think the gag reflex is just more sensitive.

Anyway...YAHOO...you are pregnant and these are all great signs that everything is going perfectly! After all you went through to get pg...you deserve to have a happy, puke free pregnancy!
